3D Grids

In Scott Robertsons book "How to Draw" I red a interesting chapter about grids (a underlying perspective structure whereof you can build up your images). As a result I thought about how to generate several grids for different lenses in 3D. So that I don't have to construct a grid over and over again. Together with a fellow student I ended up with a small setup in Maya whereby it is possible to render linear and curvelinear perspective grids and determine the angle from the later drawn object to the camera. The orange circle is the cone of view.

Greyscale Studies

This semester I painted dozens of these short tonal studies from movie stills, landscapes, or portraits. That helped me a lot constructing my own paintings. Here are some of my favorites. It took me 30 minutes per image.

Figure Drawing

I like figure drawing a lot. At school I’m attending a class weekly. I love to experiment with form and line. Here some of my favorites from the last months.

Zoo

I regularly draw in our local zoo. Especially the sketching of animals is quite fun for me. I enjoy to watch the apes, the giraffes, etc.

One Evening Eternity

Movies fascinated me my whole life. I love watching them and enjoy also the many “Behind the scenes” videos. As I was younger, I saw the “Making Ofs” from “The lord of the rings” trilogy and “Pirates of the Caribbean” and wished to be a part of such a project in future. It’s really great to see creatives from all different areas working together for one big goal.

For now I’am not in Hollywood, working on a high budget blockbuster, but I had the ability to co-direct the romantic drama “One Evening Eternity” together with my longtime friend Constantin Maier. We worked on our own movies since a age of eleven. If you are interested in some older films from us, feel free to take a look at our website: www.motion-artwork.de

“One Evening Eternity” is about the young record store owner Jonas, who stumbles into a tavern. But this is no ordinary tavern. It is detached from time. People of various of ages are meeting there, from the 14th century up to the present day. On the stage the Jazz singer Eva Elana of the 60s is performing. Both fall in love with each other. But soon they realize that the time between them will be their greatest enemy."

We invested much time to carve out the designs and the mood of the movie. Here some sample work I drew and painted.

In july we shot the film after one and a half year of preproduction. Here some impressions from the set.
